The Drugstore Gypsies (from the album The Drugstore Gypsies)
Self-confidence is the amplifier that The Drugstore Gypsies plug into on their self-titled release. The Texas band embody a Southern Rock heritage in the music as well as being well-versed in the smile with a smirk that is the birthmark of English Rock bands such as Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones. The Drugstore Gypsies showcases songs from natural born entertainers with a playing ability that makes it all seem easy, and the charm to sell the songs as immediate friends. The guitar chords and the rhythm section slash and strut a course across “Breakin’ the Law” and pound out a beat of Rock’n’Soul in “Keep You Rollin’ On” as The Drugstore Gypsies rumble rhythm to toss out a challenge to make your way to the front of the stage to “Show Up Show Down”.
Formed in 2014, The Drugstore Gypsies entered Edgewater Studios in Houston, Texas in late 2015 to being recording their self-titled debut. The Drugstore Gypsies delivers its tracks with the sound of a live show. The electricity crackles as the band slithers across the stage to snake walk “Kitty Strut Blue”, picks a front porch Folk for the tale of Sammy and Rosie as they make their way into “Indian Summer”, slams back some Tennessee whiskey as they slap electrical heat into “Black Label Boogie”, and find the power of salvation by turning up the volume in “Live the Life”. The Drugstore Gypsies crawl into a Sunday morning on a swamp Blues groove to admit “Bayou Got the Best of Me” and proudly wear the skin of “Drugstore Gypsy” as they pack the tour van with gear, good times, and no apologies.
